KONECorporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalatorindustry, has been awarded a place on CDP's prestigious 2020 'AList' for its work in tackling climate change. The company hasagain been recognized for its actions to cut emissions, mitigateclimate risks and develop a low-carbon economy. More than 5,800companies were scored and KONE ranks among a small number ofhigh-performers from that group.
Being a leader in sustainability has long been a strategic targetfor KONE. The company has a key role in making urbanization moresustainable and continues to take strong actions together with itscustomers, partners and suppliers, to develop sustainable businesspractices for the long term. Earlier this year, the company setscience-based targets for significant reductions in its greenhousegas (GHG) emissions by the year 2030 and has also pledged to havecarbon neutral operations in the same timeframe.

KONE has disclosed throughCDP since 2009 and has received a leadership score of A or A- foreight consecutive years. CDP's annual environmental disclosure andscoring process is widely recognized as the gold standard ofcorporate environmental transparency. In 2020, over 9,600 companieswith over 50% of global market capitalization disclosedenvironmental data through CDP. This is in addition to the hundredsof cities, states and regions who have disclosed, making CDP'splatform one of the richest sources of information globally on howcompanies and governments are driving environmentalchange.
Each year, a detailed and independent methodology is used by CDPto assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D- based onthe comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management ofenvironmental risks and demonstration of best practices associatedwith environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious andmeaningful targets.
KONE is committed toconducting its business in a sustainable way and expects the samecommitment from its suppliers: taking responsibility for theenvironment and sustainability more broadly is a central part ofthe KONE Code of Conduct, signed by all KONE employees andsuppliers. As a member of the UN Global Compact, KONE supports theSustainable Development agenda addressing the social, economic, andenvironmental dimensions of sustainability.
Earlier in 2020, KONE was the only elevator and escalator companyto make the Corporate Knights' 2020 Global 100 Most SustainableCorporations in the World ranking. The company ranked second amongits 234 global category peers in the "Machinery Manufacturing"Corporate Knights Industry Group.
